Hello, I'm Scott, a computer scientist with a passion for developing solutions for simple to complex problems!

Since 12 years old I've always been a problem solver. Even today, I specialize in creating solutions and turning ideas into reality. My journey has led me to collaborate with global brands, national companies and neighbors. My work spans industries from entertainment to product visualization to inner and outer space.
In my mind, nothing is impossible — it just hasn't been done yet.
I’m driven by a love for detail and innovation, I am constantly pushing the boundaries of technology. Whether it’s creating virtual worlds, animations, or implementing scientific instrumentation and using AI for faster results, I’m dedicated to delivering designs and solutions that make an impact.

A development process that leads to success

I enjoy the entire engineering process. I have always been success-oriented and driven to create. From a foundational knowledge learned in my education to the repetitive improvement from lessons learned with every project, I have learned to embrace the process of good development. The addition of standards and best practices has been even more beneficial as it helps everyone follow a consistent approach. Every project is a little different and the processes can be tuned to meet the resources available, but lack of process is not a very good approach. I believe people often enlist me to work on their projects because they recognize I will take a methodical and logical path to solve their problems. It will be traceable, transferable and maintainable. These attributes are not always identified as requirements, but they certainly have value throughout development. Perhaps it is a part of my personality that works well with the structured design of computer software and hardware? Or maybe it is just practical and obvious? Either way, I enjoy the process and learning and improving the processes as technology evolves and requires new and ever changing ways of managing compute resources. Armed with computer science and applied math degrees from the University of Idaho I have been able to apply my skills and knowledge to accomplish my goals and the customer goals.

I start by deeply understanding your project needs and requirements. I analyze the market, competitors, and target audience to build a solid foundation for an effective development process.

Based on my findings, I create a clear development plan. This includes structuring tasks, selecting the right tools, and defining key milestones to ensure the project stays on track.

With a strong plan in place, I move to implementation, paying attention to every detail. I rigorously test functionality and optimize performance to deliver the best possible outcome.

High-end product visualization tools

Detailed 3D visualization showcasing product textures and realistic lighting to emphasize luxury and quality using LightWave 3D. I was a software technical lead charged with repairing and maintaing and updating mainly the Macintosh version but also the PC version of the code base. In three years I was able to resolve over 500 software bugs or deficiencies, reestablishing the Mac code base and the PC code base as the premiere 3D rendering tool of the time for a worldwide customer base of around 100,000 users.

I pioneered MPEG video over copper transmission lines. As part of the first FCC sanctioned video-over-phone lines public trial, I co-founded a company and produced both analog and digital Video-on-demand servers. Servers were installed in downtown Manhattan and interactive video was delivered to three high-rise apartment buildings using our system.

A benchtop version of the CYGNSS satellite used for ground based mission planning and simulation. There are eight satellites in the constellation that provide terrestrial image data based on doppler detection of GPS transponder reflections. This 2-year mission has been extended and has provided an abundance of science data since 2016!

As a career Computer Scientist I have experience in many programming languages including: Assembly, C/C++, JAVA, Python, Perl, MATLAB, Lisp, Modula II, PASCAL, Javascript, HTML, CSS, PHP, SQL as well as scripting languages like csh, bash, DOS and Tk. Although I am not formally trained in electrical engineering I have essential and fundamental skills that allow me to work closely with electrical engineers. I am often engaged in the low-level interfaces, like SPI, I2C, USB, Ethernet, Spacewire and others. I use troubleshooting skills and tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, meters and signal generators to resolve issues and keep things moving. Similarly, for mechanical engineering, I have some knowledge and background that allows me to work closely with mechanical issues such as thermal vacuum testing, wire routing, connector selection, test fixtures or shipping fixtures. I am able to step in and support or manage the teams as needed.

My Experience

Robotic Systems
From simple actuators to fully automated control systems for manipulators, vacuum chambers or custom machinery, I have been working at the hardware and software level since I could write BASIC language code as a kid.
Software and Algorithmic Mathematical Solutions
Based on my love of math and my Applied Mathematics degree education I have been able to deploy computer-based solutions to a variety of intense mathematics demands including: cryptography, video compression and streaming, data storage, massively parallel testing, visualization, radio and digital telecommunications, advertising, combinatorial math, and more.
Space Science - Earth orbit, Moons, Inner Planets, Outer planets and Beyond
Going beyond terrestrial challenges and into deep space, I have been working on Space Science projects creating support systems ranging from data networks, satellite/spacecraft communication and control, scientific instrumentation, ground-based support systems, to rigorous testing environments (Vacuum, Vibe, EMC/EMI, High Voltage, etc.). These systems involve the compute hardware, ancillary hardware, software, user interfaces, data management, control and maintenance features. Some systems have highly specialized requirements. Perhaps they need to be shipped worldwide, or they need to operate in a confined space, or maybe they will be in a clean environment or high voltage cage. These are my areas of specialty, resolving the unique requirements of customers is something I have become adept at doing time and again.
